Please join the Music Department as we welcome back Jamil Jorge '13, who will discuss his research in ethnomusicology and his work with the Performing Arts Initiative for Students of Color, followed by a Q&A. Jamil will share how music research focused on people builds a foundation for applied ethnomusicology. By framing research in terms of its potential use for social change, Jamil will describe how analyzing intersecting identities in drum and bugle corps helped to create a diversity, equity, and inclusion-focused nonprofit in the performing arts, and start a career as a training and mentoring program coordinator. Jamil is a PhD candidate in musicology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
