"Sachems, Snakeskins, and Statecraft: Indigenous Diplomacy in Colonial New

England"

~ Talk by historian Mack Scott.

This talk traces the agency of Indigenous leaders as they employed alliances, aid, deception, and fear—the traditional tools of statecraft— to reorder the political landscape in southern New England during the mid-seventeenth century.

Mack Scott (Kansas State University, Ph.D. History, 2019) is an

enrolled member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe. His work focuses

on the intersections of race and identity.
